Specifically, NZTE and other government agencies have received a number of complaints from the public about the New Zealand Small Business Assistance Centre (nzfundinggrants.org).
The Commerce Commission has issued a media release warning about this website, which NZTE and other government agencies echo.
The Centre describes itself as “a private research and publishing organisation” and provides “a searchable online directory of government grants and loans offered by the New Zealand government” for a fee.
The Centre is not affiliated with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Callaghan Innovation, the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment or any other government agency.
All of the information about government financial support for businesses is available for free online or by calling the relevant government organisation, such as Callaghan Innovation, NZTE, or our Regional Business Partners.
Genuine New Zealand government websites end in ‘.govt.nz’. These websites are safe and provide all New Zealand Government funding and grants information and details on how to apply.
Websites ending in ‘.org’, which suggest they can help your business secure Government funding, are not safe. Please do not give these websites your credit card details as you risk having money debited from your account.
To get an overview of the government’s support for small-to-medium sized businesses, the best place to go is business.govt.nz.
